Alabama Ghost Towns

If you enjoy visiting abandoned old buildings, antique cemeteries, or churches left behind by our ancestors, then you will love these ghost towns in Alabama.

Barnsville
Located on Highway 19, there is still a few scattered residents. Still remaining is a Missionary Baptist Church, a Freewill Baptist church and a free running spring that sill functions and has clear water.

Alabama Home

Pansey
This was a upbeat and healthy farming community in the late 1800's and into the 1900's. It's named Pansey after the daughter of the first postmaster. This city was home to a cotton gin, school house, feed mill and even had a doctor. The farming started to die out and with it so did the town.

St Stephens
This town is located off of us Hwy 43 near Leroy Alabama. There is a paved road to the town but the road to a Fort created in 1769 is dirt. There is also a historical park there to entertain and educate you. This area is full of history with not only the fort but it was also the first territorial Capital of Alabama. For more information or to visit the park you can visit http://www.oldststephens.com/visit_st_stephens.htm

Claiborne
This city was founded in 1811. At one point this city was home to 2500, many of those included wealthy and renowned politicians. The home of congressman James Dellet is still there today and was built back in 1841. This city died as soon as the steam boat traffic ended in the early 1900's.
